It is expected that iOS 5 will be previewed during the Apple media event at San Francisco. If iOS users willing to jailbreak then MobileNotifier is an alternative open-source to the current notification system of Apple. The new Jailbreak MobileNotifier called Tweak developed by Peter Hajas. The tweak make the notifications useful and it works on how the iOS handles push notifications, incoming SMS, and anything that appear in dreaded notification bubble. The tweak is still in beta, but already making a good impression.
